The falls and woodland at Aysgarth have been attracting visitors since the 18th century Artists such as J.M.W. Turner painted here and William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy wrote about their visit here in 1812. More recently Kevin Costner made the falls even more famous with the fight scene between Robin Hood and Little John at The Upper Falls in the film Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Many local people had parts as an extra in the film requirements being long hair and bushy beard (the men not the ladies!).
